At ROMT Scissor Sisters

When Scissor Sisters in 2001 came together in New York City, five musicians united by a common background.

Scott "Babydaddy" Hoffman said, "I think we all felt like outsiders from very conservative towns".

He added, "I sort of listened to the same music as the rest of the kids listened to but at the same time I knew I was different — a gay Jewish kid growing up in Kentucky. There weren't many of those, y'know?

All of us (in the Scissor Sisters) came from similar places. ... We knew that we weren't in places that appreciate eccentric qualities. New York was the place we felt accepted and gave us the drive to do something."

So far this has resulted in three albums - including last year's Night Work - and Elton John and, in collaboration with Kylie Minogue.

Bono is a member of U2 has also proved famous in the U.K. hits including such as "Take Your Mama," "Mary," "Filthy/Gorgeous," "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" and a revved up version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb."

Babydaddy, 34, he said, "It's a little bit in the back of our heads but the goal isn't to have what we have over there in the U.S. The goal is to do what we can and do the best we can in the U.S.

It was the same way in the U.K. — maybe not a struggle, but it was a lot of work, and we're willing to do that here, too."
